I spotted this Great Horned Owl pair while doing the GBBC on Feb. 17th at Park Lake Provincial Park. In southern Alberta they start pairing up in the latter part of January through February in preparation for nesting in late February or early March. They were tucked away in a spruce tree, protected from a frigid north wind and secure from being discovered by birds that harass them. As you can see, they were totally relaxed. I was lucky to find them.
