Picayune Strand, Florida, USA
Discovered location of this rare species on eBird. Had looked for it the day before, but didn’t have good location. Then an eBirder gave a better description of where they were. Went at 7:00 a.m. and was thrilled to find the Red-cockaded Woodpeckers right were they had been reported. All that I saw had bands. This photo shows a red and a yellow band. They are in their preferred habitat – open pine woods. Was also surprised and thrilled to see Eastern Bluebirds in this forest. I guess because it is “open,” they do well there.
