This beautiful Mallard pair paid us a visit on the first day of the count – February 17th, 2017. I spotted them in our back pasture swimming, dabbling and dipping in a large puddle from a recent rainfall. I had to go back to the house to get my Dad’s professional photographer’s camera to get this shot – I was so thankful they were still where I left them when I came back to take pictures! These Mallards stayed for quite some time – I actually saw them in our neighborhood on all the days of the count. In this photo, I captured a special moment between both ducks – the male (or drake) was guarding his girl (the female or hen). It was sweet to see them enjoying each others company! This sighting was one of my favorite’s of GBBC 2017.
