St. Louis is home to Eurasian Tree Sparrows. The Eurasian Tree Sparrows and a few other species were released in Lafayette Park on April 25,1870, with only the sparrows surviving.

I am attached to these birds and feel lucky that there is a small colony at the nearby Nature Center. There were several House Sparrows and only a pair of Eurasian Tree Sparrows. Normally these 2 species do not occupy the same area as House Sparrows can be aggressive towards their cousins.
